MODEL GOVERNMENTAL OR SECULAR RESOLUTION SUPPORTING SAVING CBGBs
(Please have your arts collective, city council, school government, bike messenger association, Music Group, etc… vote on)
WHEREAS ________________ is proud of its long and distinguished tradition of promoting the arts, music, and culture.
WHEREAS _____________ has a diverse constituency; and understands the needs of providing real space to promote new ideas and new forms of art and music.
WHEREAS the preservation of live music in New York City and the history of truly American forms of music should be celebrated by all Americans.
WHEREAS there are few places left in America that mean as much to music fans historically as CBGBs
WHEREAS small venues like CBGBs are as important to New York City’s music scene as small “Off-Broadway” Theaters are to New Yorks vibrant Broadway Theater District
WHEREAS CBGBs has 32 years of uncompromising music integrity and history in developing such acts as: Blondie, Talking Heads, Ramones, Television, Patti Smith, Joan Jett & the Black Hearts, the Police, the B-52's, Black Flag, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Jeff Buckley, and the Smashing Pumpkins.
WHEREAS the revitalization plans of New York’s Lower east Side should rely on its unique history and amazing achievements in the arts and culture that shape the world today.
WHEREAS hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world travel to CBGBs each year as a living museum to a subculture and to see modern music performed.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT _______ AFFIRMS its strong support for for keeping CBGBs in its original location and supports a quick resolution of the matter between CBGBs and their landlord.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT ____________ SUPPORTS asking the city’s mayor’s office and board of tourism to get involved in helping preserve CBGBs as a historic location, tourist destination, and unique music arts and cultural venue like no other in this world
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT ___________ will transmit a copies of this resolution the City of New York’s Office of Economic Development and Visitors Bureau.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT ___________ will transmit a copy of this resolution to the BRC with a letter urging them to renew CBGBs lease.
FINALLY BE IT RESOLVED THAT __________ will transmit a copy of this resolution to Governor _______, and appropriate members of the State Legislature, accompanied by a letter urging them to support efforts to resolve this conflict and support proper Land marking of CBGBs
